Inner city entrepreneurship
Bergen op Zoom is a city of culture. The place is rich in (cultural) history, events, amateur art, theatre and cultural education. Bergen op Zoom is also characterised by a high level of ambition. The city has been awarded a large number of prizes and awards.
Beste Binnenstad (Best Inner City)
In September 2007 Bergen op Zoom has been awarded with the title ‘Best Dutch inner city’ (‘Beste Binnenstad van Nederland’) which the city is allowed to use for two years. Bergen op Zoom won the title (in the category ‘medium-size cities) since it is “a vibrant, interesting and pleasant historic city“. Furthermore the jury was very positive about the recent and succesful renewal and replanning of the inner city as well as the approach in cooperation.

Shops are open from Mondays (afternoon) till Saturdays. Late-night shopping is on Fridays till 21.00h.
